CSUN Offers Sneak Peek at Two New Hollywood Movies

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., July 9, 2004) -- The public is invited to join Cal State Northridge students and faculty for a sneak peek at two of the latest offerings from Hollywood.

Members of the public can catch a free advance screening of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle at 6 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, in the Alan and Elaine Armer Theater in CSUN's Manzanita Hall, located at the southwest corner of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

In the tradition of Road Trip and Dude, Where's My Car?, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle chronicles the exploits of two underdogs who set out on a Friday night quest to satisfy their craving for White Castle hamburgers and end up on a unique road trip. The film stars John Cho of both American Pie pictures and Kal Pann of Malibu's Most Wanted.

The film is rated R. Identification will be required for proof of age. Passes are available in Northridge's Department of Cinema and Television Arts or at the door. Seating is first come, first served with no saving of seats.

On Friday, Aug. 6, at 6 and 8 p.m., there will be a free advance screening of Without a Paddle, a high-speed comedy adventure in which three young men go into the Oregon wilderness in search of treasure. They take a canoe upriver and everything that can go wrong does.

Without a Paddle, which will be shown in the Armer Theater, is rated PG-13 and stars Seth Green, Dax Shepard, Ethan Suplee, Abraham Benrubi, Rachel Blanchard and Burt Reynolds. Seating is first come, first serve, with no saving of seats.

For more information about either screening, call the Department of Cinema and Television Arts at (818) 677-3193.

Both screenings are offered through Cal State Northridge's Cinematheque. The only venue of its kind in the San Fernando Valley, the Cinematheque presents thematically-designed retrospectives of classic films, as well as aesthetically significant contemporary releases in conjunction with the appearance of featured guest artists for lectures and panel discussions.

While waiting for the movies to begin, members of the public can enjoy a tour of the university's Gallery of Film Poster Art, the only permanent university gallery in the United States devoted to motion picture posters.
