CSUN Introduces the Newest Members
of Its Foundation Board
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Aug. 13, 2002) Cal State Northridge officials are pleased to introduce the newest members of the university's Foundation Board of Directors.
The foundation is a nonprofit auxiliary of Cal State Northridge that receives and oversees the management of private donations to the university. Among its roles is to raise money for the enhancement and support of programs that normally would not be funded by the state.
The 29-member volunteer board includes some of Southern California's leading business and community leaders.
"We are thrilled with the strength of the leadership of our board. They reflect the vitality and excellence of the university," said Judy C. Knudson, CSUN's vice president of university advancement.
The newest members of the foundation board include:
- William Allison, vice president and general manager of Navigation Systems Group, Northrop Grumman.
- Sherry S. Barrat, chairman and chief executive officer of Northern Trust Bank of California.
- John W. Bradley, controller for The Boeing Company.
- John Schueler, president, chief executive officer and publisher of the Los Angeles Daily News.
- Dale Surowitz, chief executive officer of the Encino-Tarzana Medical Center.
Bradley is also a member of the foundation's executive committee, serving as chair of the corporate and foundation relations committee.
The executive committee includes James David Power III, founder and president of J.D. Power and Associates, who serves as chair. The vice chair of the executive committee is Debra Papageorge, vice president and senior trust consultant for Morgan Stanley Trust and a CSUN alum.
Other executive committee members are Michael Grobstein, founder and managing partner of Grobstein, Horwath and Company, LLP. and a CSUN alum, chair of the foundation's finance and investment committee; Philip S. Magaram, attorney and principal with the law firm of Valensi, Rose and Magaram, chair of the major gifts committee; and Robert Rawitch, vice president of the public relations firm Winner/Wagner and Associates and former editorial operations director for the Los Angeles Times Valley and Ventura County editions and a CSUN alum.
California State University, Northridge has more than 31,500 full- and part-time students and offers 59 bachelor's and 41 master's degrees as well as 28 education credential programs. Founded in 1958, it is the only four-year university in the San Fernando Valley and the third largest in the 23-campus CSU system. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges recently said CSUN "stands as a model to other public urban institutions of higher education."
