Final Town Hall Meeting on Teacher Education
Scheduled for Vaughn Learning Center

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif.) - The last of three town hall meetings by a Cal State Northridge-created commission exploring improvements in teacher education has been set for Thursday, May 27, at the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center in San Fernando.

The Commission on Excellence in Teacher Preparation will host the session from 6-8 p.m. at the school at 13330 Vaughn St.

Cal State Northridge education professors Nancy Burstein, David Kretschmer and Christine Smith, and Phyllis Gudoski, a former special education teacher, will talk about the work they are doing to ensure teachers are better prepared when they enter the classroom. The project at Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley is known as the Design for Excellence Linking Teaching and Achievement/Accelerated Collaborative Teacher-preparation program (DELTA-ACT).

The purpose of the town hall session - which is open to the public - is for the commission to seek input from public school teachers and administrators, parents and community leaders, university faculty, school reform advocates, teachers union and social service agency representatives and others.

The Thursday session will be held in Vaughn's new Panda Village Community Library. Parking is available in the school lot at the corner of Vaughn Street and Herrick Avenue.
