Wilson to Swear in New CSUN Police Chief

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif.) - Cal State Northridge President Blenda J. Wilson will officially swear in Ronald Seacrist, a 29-year law enforcement veteran and former police chief at the University of Texas, San Antonio, as CSUN's new police chief and director of public safety on Friday, May 21.

Wilson will administer the oath of office at 2 p.m. in Room A of the President's Office on the west side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.

Seacrist, 50, whose background includes extensive campus and municipal law enforcement experience, started working at the campus last month. His appointment capped a 13-month transitional period for CSUN law enforcement, following the retirement of former director Ed Harrison.

"Chief Seacrist clearly understands the dynamics of campus law enforcement and has the depth and breadth of experience to succeed in the job," Wilson said.

Seacrist began his law enforcement career in 1970 with a 10- and one-half-year stint on the Tampa (Fla.) Police Department. He next shifted to a succession of university positions, including three police chief-level jobs prior to joining CSUN.

At Northridge, Seacrist oversees a Public Safety Department that includes the campus policing function with 19 sworn officers parking and transportation services; the student-staffed Community Service Officer program; and campus environmental health and occupational safety programs.
