CSUN Offers Workshops on Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge is offering mental health professionals a workshop on substance abuse on March 20 and one on HIV/AIDS on March 21.

The workshops will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at the Business Auditorium 101 on the west side of campus near Etiwanda Avenue and Plummer Street.

Marriage and family counselors Teresa Jacobs and Irwin Jacobs will examine the issue of substance abuse through lectures, discussions and films to provide intervention strategies and treatment processes.

Marriage and family counselor Miriam Davis will touch on medical, psychiatric, psycho-social and treatment issues associated with people who are HIV or AIDS infected. Davis' topics will include, among others, the history of HIV/AIDS, treatments, community resources, bereavement and suicide.

Affordable fees and continuing education units are offered to Marriage Family Child Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and educators.

The series of workshops is approved by the California Association of Counseling and Development, the California Psychological Association Accrediting Agency and the Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Workshops are designed to provide quality continuing education and training to licensed counselors, teachers, school psychologists, interns and other mental health professionals.
