CSUN to Host Backyard Composter Sale
and Gardening Workshop

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif.) - Summer is coming and backyard barbecues are just a few weeks away. But your backyard is just not cutting it because it looks dry and dull and gardening basics are not in the budget.

Cal State Northridge and the Los Angeles City Bureau of Sanitation have some solutions to the backyard woes on Saturday, June 12.

CSUN will play host to the city's "All Day Backyard Composter Sale" from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day will include a "Smart-Gardening" workshop.

Los Angeles officials will sell compost bins for $20 to LA residents with proof of residency. The compost bins normally sell for $89 and are being offered at a discounted rate for anyone interested in recycling yard trimmings and other organic mass. Compost bins will turn yard trimmings, leftover vegetables and grass into mulch in three to four months to be used again for the yard.

The "Smart-Gardening" workshop is available from 10 a.m. to noon to teach residents the basics of water-wise gardening, grasscycling, mulching, yard trimmings composting and worm composting.

The event will be held in CSUN's Parking Lot C located on Zelzah Avenue and Nordhoff Street in Northridge.

For more information, call Nady Maechling at (213) 473-4405 or Solid Resources Citywide Recycling Division at (213) 847-1444.
