Students Celebrate the Study of
Engineering and Computer Science

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Dozens of Cal State Northridge students will hit the streets next week, visiting local high schools to share their love of engineering and computer science as part of the university's "E-Week" celebration.

Each year, the College of Engineering and Computer Science celebrates its students' career choices with a week of festivities that highlight the fields of engineering and computer science.

"E-Week is always held in the week that contains Washington's birthday, Feb. 22, honoring the tradition that George Washington was the father of the engineering profession in the United States," said the college's dean, Laurence Caretto. Caretto explained that Washington was a land surveyor. In today's society he would be a civil engineer.

E-Week starts off with the dedication of the recently restored Engineering building at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22.

At 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, dozens of CSUN students will hop into their cars and head off to Reseda High School's Technology Magnet, Simi Technology Magnet, Louisville High School, Granada Hills High School's Math and Science Magnet and Alemany High School to talk about their studies and give demonstrations of what they've learned.

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. more than 50 companies will visit the campus to recruit CSUN students and alumni for jobs. There will be a mixer for alumni and students from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, in the College of Engineering and Computer Science's building.
