CSUN Conference Offers Tools to
Help Women Escape Violence

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Physical abuse, sexual abuse, sexual harassment. These are issues many women have to confront every day.

Cal State Northridge is offering a free conference Thursday, March 11, that can provide women with the tools to escape the violence.

"Education is the first step to safety, and everyone can do something to help prevent violence at home and in their community," said Jean Morrison, founder and planner of CSUN's third annual "Ending Violence Against Women Conference."

The day-long event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Student Union on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.

Morrison said the conference will debunk myths about victims and perpetrators and help people identify precursors to violence and how to locate community services if violence occurs.

"We're providing this event for anyone interested in being part of the solution," Morrison said.

Workshop topics include date rape and relationship violence, violence against immigrant workers, domestic violence, violence against women of color, the economics of violence, sexual harassment, public attitudes sexual assault, same sex domestic violence, elder abuse and child sexual assault and incest.
