CSUN Celebrates "Recycle for Earth Week '99"

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Ever wonder what to do with those pesky soda cans lying by the trash can or the motor oil from an oil change? Cal State Northridge can suggest ways to help eliminate unwanted wastes and be environmentally friendly at the same time.

CSUN will celebrate "Recycle for Earth Week '99" from April 19 to 24 at the University Student Union (USU) with a variety of events, including speakers and presentations by Heal the Bay, the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation, Solid Resources, Surfrider Foundation and Communities for a Better Environment.

The "CSUN EarthFair" on April 21 will feature displays and information from environmental organizations, agencies and businesses. The EarthFair will allow students, faculty and staff an opportunity to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity by donating as many cans as possible with incentives for the most cans contributed by an individual or group (see attached schedule of events).

The TreePeople and the University Student Union will coordinate a tree planting around the USU on Wednesday, April 21.

The City of Los Angeles' HazMobile will collect household hazardous wastes, such as lawn chemicals, bleach, motor oil and pesticides, at the CSUN Parking Lot T on Lindley Street and Lassen Avenue from Thursday, April 22, to Saturday, April 24, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more information on Earth Week activities, call CSUN Recycling Coordinator Cyndi Signett at (818) 677-2477 or email her at csignett@csun.edu.
