CSUN Students are "Working" Their Way to China

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif.) - Cal State Northridge will hold a benefit performance and reception for its Department of Theatre on Saturday, May 1, to raise money for an international cultural exchange with the People's Republic of China.

The theatre department has been invited by the Shanghai Theater Academy and the Shanghai Center Theater to perform its production of the musical "Working," based on the book by Studs Terkel, in China this June.

"This cultural exchange is an exciting extension of CSUN's engagement with educational institutions in China," said Justine Zhixin Su, director of CSUN's China Institute. "It marks the first time that any of the 21 participating students will visit China. This experience will be an important part of their undergraduate education."

Michael Reno, director of "Working" said this will be the beginning of an international studies program for the theatre department that will allow students to study acting styles from around the world.

The benefit performance and reception will be held at 8 p.m. in the campus theater located in the Speech-Drama Building on Etiwanda Avenue and Nordhoff Street.

For more information, call the Department of Theatre at (818) 677-3086.

CSUN has about 27,000 full- and part-time students, offering 48 bachelor's and 39 master's degrees. Founded in 1958, CSUN is celebrating its 40th anniversary and is the only four-year university in the San Fernando Valley.
