Is Charter Reform the Answer to the Valley's Problems?

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, Councilman Rudy Svorinich and members of the city's charter reform commissions will talk about the impact of the proposed new charter on the San Fernando Valley during a panel discussion Tuesday, April 6, at Cal State Northridge.

"A Panel on Los Angeles Charter Reform: Will the Compromise Charter Proposal Satisfy the Valley? What are the Changes? Will It Prevent Secession?" is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center of the University Student Union on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

Joining Riordan and Svornich will be Jeff Brain, executive director of Valley VOTE, the organization leading the Valley's drive to secede from Los Angeles; Sharon Schuster, a member of the Appointed Charter Reform Commission, former president of the American Association of University Women and member of CSUN's Community Advisory Board; Rob Glushon, an Encino attorney and member of the Elected Charter Reform Commission, and Paula Boland, former member of the State Assembly and a member of the Elected Charter Reform Commission.

Asking the panel questions will be Ron Kaye, managing editor of the Daily News, and Molly Selvin, city hall and charter reform reporter for the Los Angeles Times. Moderating the evening will be Bill Rosendahl, vice president of Century Cable.
