CSUN's Marine Research Program Receives $5,000 Gift

The Nearshore Marine Fish Research Program at Cal State Northridge has been awarded $5,000 to build a 4,000-gallon saltwater tank to assist in the study of Southern California's nearshore marine sport fish.

The money was a gift from Camarillo-based Fred Hall & Associates, the largest organizer of fishing tackle and boat exhibitions in the western United States.

The tank will be built at the Southern California Marine Institute at Terminal Island. CSUN has been a member of the institute since its inception in 1993.

"This is a vehicle to continue our education of the angling public and to raise additional funds for graduate research," said biology professor Larry G. Allen, director of the program.

Allen said the tank will be the only portable saltwater one available in Southern California for educational programs, including "Project Oceans,." a program that bring sea animals to children in the Los Angeles and Long Beach school districts.
