CSUN Announces Early Close for Fall Admissions

Cal State Northridge has announced an early close to fall admissions because of a surge in student applications.

CSUN President Blenda J. Wilson said the admissions application period for first-time freshmen for the fall 1997 semester will close Saturday, March 15. The university will continue to accept applications for undergraduate transfer and graduate students.

"We have exceeded our benchmark of 7800 applications for First-Time Freshman in the fall. At this rate, the applicant pool for Fall 1997 would exceed our capacity to accommodate students with high-quality instruction and adequate course offerings," Wilson said.

After a drop in enrollment following the 1994 Northridge earthquake, CSUN is experiencing a great resurgence in applications as the university rebuilds and expands. By limiting the number of first-time applicants, Wilson hopes to avoid the conditions of the late 1980s when students were unable to get the classes they needed because of overwhelming enrollment.

For more information, or questions concerning the early close of the admissions application period, call the Office of Transfer Services at (818) 677-4689, or the Office of Admissions and Records at (818) 677-3773.
