The opera tells the story of hapless Nemerino who purchases a potion to make his love interest, Adina, fall in love with him before she can run away with the handsome Sergeant Belcore. Surprises and comic confusions result from the dubious elixir.
"The opera is full of sparkling melodies and emotional tunes that have earned it the appreciation of audiences and the reputation as one of the standard classics" said Jeffrey Levy, Theatre Manager.
The CSUN Theatre and Music departments are producing the opera with direction provided by David W. Scott, a professor in CSUN's Music department.
The elaborate set is designed by Cathy Susan Pyles, with costumes by Paula Higgins and Lighting by Mark Svastics.
The cast includes students from CSUN's nationally acclaimed opera program whose alumna, Carol Vaness, recently won critical accolades for her performance in Tosca.
The Elixir of Love will run Feb. 21, 22, 23, 28 and March 1. Performance times are 8 p.m. for the Friday and Saturday shows, and 5 p.m. for the Sunday performance.
Tickets may be purchased in advance from the Student Union Ticket Office at (818) 677-3093, or from TicketMaster at (213) 480-3232. Tickets may also be purchased at the door two hours prior to curtain. Prices range from $7 to $12.
