Hearing on Higher Education Act to be Held at CSUN

U.S. Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, will conduct the first congressional field hearing on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act on Thursday, January 30 at Cal State Northridge.

The Higher Education Act was first authorized in 1965 to ensure access to higher education for low-income Americans. Today, the Higher Education Act governs the spending of federal higher education programs, including over $35 billion per year in federal financial aid and loans, grants and work study aid to approximately 7 million students across the country.

McKeon chairs the House Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education, Training and Life-Long Learning, which is holding meetings across the country to get input from students, parents and educators on the final language of the bill.

The hearing is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon in the Shoshone Room of the Satellite Student Union on the corner of Zelzah Ave. and Lassen St. Parking is available in the adjacent parking structure.
