New General Manager for KCSN Named

Radio personality RenŽ Herz Engel has been named the new general manager of KCSN, Cal State Northridge's public radio station.

Engel, who started work today, will oversee a full-time staff of five and the station's annual operating budget of approximately $400,000. Engel, a CSUN alumnus, most recently hosted KUSC's afternoon drive-time program.

"RenŽ's local experience and his experience in public radio, always associated with a university, was very important to us," said William Toutant, associated dean of the College of Arts, Media. "He understands the importance of the relationship between the station and the university, and that was very important to us too."

Engel replaces Teresa Rogers, who resigned as KCSN's general manager late last summer. Toutant has served as the station's acting general manager during the interim.

Engel said his top two goals as the new head of KCSN are to get the station on a sound financial footing, and to move its transmitter to Oat Mountain above Granada Hills. The FCC approved the transmitter's relocation last week.

Engel said he will review the station's operation but he has no intention at this time of changing its format. KCSN is one of three radio station's in the Los Angeles area with a classical music format.
