McCormick will talk about his experiences researching such deadly viruses as ebola and lassa fever while in third world countries.
His presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center of the University Student Union near the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
McCormick helped established the "hot labs," where research on extremely dangerous and contagious viruses is conducted, at the CDC. Much of his time was spent in remote villages in Africa, Asia and South American conducting research on such diseases as ebola and lassa and Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever.
His appearance is sponsored by the Friends of the Oviatt Library and the Distinguished Visiting Speakers Program.
Admission is free. McCormick will be available after his talk to sign copies of his book, which will be on sale that evening
