CSUN to Host Bicycle Summit

Bicycle riders who traverse the unpredictable streets of Los Angeles will finally have their day in the spotlight as Cal State Northridge welcomes the 1997 San Fernando Valley Bicycle Advocacy Summit from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the University Student Union on Thursday, April 24.

Sponsored by transportation agencies from throughout Los Angeles, the summit will show citizens and decision-makers that bicycling is important to the city's health, both economically and environmentally.

The scheduled speakers include bicycling organization representatives, local elected officials, and members of the media and entertainment industry. Topics will cover why bicycling is good for communities, how cities/counties/ states can develop a bicycling infrastructure, and examples of successful community-based bicycle strategies.

Actor Ed Begley, Jr. will kick off the event at 9 a.m. with the opening address "Why Bicycling is Good".

The registration fee of $45 ($15 for students) covers a continental breakfast and lunch, a summit program, list of attendees, and two prize raffle tickets. Limited exhibitor space is available for a small additional fee. Attendees registering before April 7 will receive a complimentary parking pass for Lot C at the CSUN campus (parking without the pass is $1.75 for the day). Registration will also be available at the door.
