CSUN Professor Awarded NEA Grant

Cal State Northridge professor, Dorothy Barresi, was awarded a $20,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Barresiis one of only 37 poets awarded grants last month out of 722 applicants from around the country. The endowment was based on the artistic merit of her manuscript for a book of poetry, tentatively titled Neither Moss Nor Rust.

"My style in this collection is best described as a hybrid of lyrical and narrative poetry because it is musical, but it also tells a story," Barresi said. "The theme centers around the experience of the birth of my son at the time of my mother's death."

Barresi plans to use the grant to complete her book. She has already published two other books of poetry, Post Rapture Diner and All of the Above.
