Anonymous Donor Gives Jewish Studies $4,000

An anonymous donor gave Cal State Northridge's Jewish Studies Program $4,000 last month in memory of Evelyn Rosenkrantz who died last summer from complications of a stroke at age 75.

The donor said Rosenkrantz, a longtime resident of Sherman Oaks, had served as an inspiration and a "source of wisdom" throughout her life.

Rosenkrantz spent much of her later years doing charitable work and inventing household appliances for senior citizens and the physically impaired. She held three patents at the time of her death.

The donation will support a new class on contemporary Jewish religious expression.

The course will examine new religious movements and writings centered on mystical study and meditation, outreach movements like Chabad and Aish ha-Torah, Jewish 12-step programs, feminist spirituality and Judaism and the arts.

"This gift enables CSUN students to study the newest forms of Jewish creativity from an academic perspective, and compare them to other American forms of religious expression," said Jody Myers, coordinator of the program. "Students and faculty are excited about the opportunity to study this fascinating and complex material."
