CSUN Police to Offer Tips on Keeping Children Safe

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., May 10, 2004) -- Children can get valuable safety tips and dress up like police officers while their parents get advice on how to keep their youngsters out of harm's way at Cal State Northridge's second annual "Children's Safety Day" on Thursday, May 13.

The free activities will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of CSUN's Associated Students Children's Center on Plummer Street west of Etiwanda Avenue in Northridge.

The day also will include a chance for parents to get their children fingerprinted and for the young people to get their pictures taken with police officers and fire fighters and to explore real police cars and fire engines.

The event is sponsored by Cal State Northridge's Department of Public Safety. It will include participation by the campus's police force, the National Missing Child Locate Center, the California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Fire Department, the Valley Trauma Center, the Los Angeles Unified School District's Traffic Safety Educators, the CSU Channel Islands Canine Unit and more.
