(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 26, 2004) - Some of the top Latino names in comedy will be performing Saturday, May 1, at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre to raise money for scholarships at Cal State Northridge.

The "Latino Comedy Festival," featuring the humor of Gilbert Esquivel, Shayla Rivera, Johnny Sanchez and Vic Dunlop, will begin at 8 p.m. at the Ford Amphitheatre, 2580 Cahuenga Blvd., East.

More than 700 people are expected to attend the event, which is being put on by Cal State Northridge's Association of Latino Alumni to raise money for scholarships.

"The funds will go to students who are the first in their families to go to college," said Raul Ruiz, a professor of Chicano/a studies at Cal State Northridge and executive producer of the comedy festival.

In addition to the comedians, the evening will feature music from The Chicano All-Star Music Band. The master of ceremonies for the night will be Fidel Ramirez, pre-college coordinator of CSUN's Student Outreach and Recruitment.

Tickets are $20 and $28 and are available through the amphitheatre at (323) 461-3673 or www.fordamphitheatre.com, or through CSUN's Alumni Association at (818) 677-2137 or www.csunalumni.com.

Esquivel, Rivera, Sanchez and Dunlop are veteran performers who have appeared at comedy venues across the country, including The Improv and The Comedy Store and on Show Time, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Univision and in feature films.
