CSUN's Spring Cinematheque Series Explores
Seven Artistic Cultures of Arts, Media, Communication

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 5, 2004) -- Cal State Northridge's Cinematheque series has released the rest of its spring schedule, which explores how the arts, media and communication are depicted or reflected in film.

Northridge's Cinematheque this academic year has been devoted to e xamining how Hollywood treats the seven artistic culturesÑcinema and television arts, communication studies, journalism, music, theatre and radioÑthat make up the College of Arts, Media, and Communication, where the series is housed.

The free screenings take place in the Alan and Elaine Armer Theater in CSUN's Manzanita Hall, located at the southwest corner of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

The Cinematheque's spring schedule is as follows:

  • 12 April - Monday
    Luther
    Host/moderator: Jeanine Kabrich, film scholar and alumna of CSUN's CTVA Critical Studies Department.
    Screening begins at 7 p.m. Discussion to follow entitled God in Contemporary Cinema.
  • 13 April - Tuesday
    Anatomy of a Classic: How "LA Confidential" Works
    Guest: Michael Hauge
    Hauge is one of the premier speakers on screenwriting in the world. He is the author of "Writing Screenplays that Sell," and is among Hollywood's most sought-after script consultants.
    Screenwriting lecture on Story Structure begins at 7 p.m., highlighted with film clips.

    Fear on Trial
    Lecture begins at 7 p.m. Screening to follow.
  • 21 April - Wednesday
    THE CINEMA OF WORLD WAR II: World War II and the Rape of European Art

    Notes: Emmy winner Tina Fey has been a staff writer on NBCÕs Saturday Night Live (SNL) since 1997. She is the first female head writer in the showÕs 29-year history. Best known for co-anchoring ÒWeekend Update,Ó Fey is in her fifth SNL season as an on-air performer. ÒMean GirlsÓ marks her feature film screenwriting debut.

The only venue of its kind in the San Fernando Valley, the Cinematheque, offered by CSUN's Department of Cinema and Television Arts, presents thematically-designed retrospectives of classic films, as well as aesthetically significant contemporary releases in conjunction with the appearance of featured guest artists for lectures and panel discussions.
