CSUN Dedicates Lecture Auditorium
in Honor of Local Accounting Firm
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 29, 2004) -- Cal State Northridge on Tuesday May 13 will dedicate a lecture auditorium in honor of a local accounting firm as a tribute to its continuing support of Northridge's College of Business and Economics.
The dedication ceremony is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. At that time Northridge's business lecture auditorium, room BB1103, will be named for the Southern California-based accounting firm Good, Swartz, Brown, & Berns LLP (GSBB).
The firm's contributions have funded accounting scholarships and faculty development in the college's Department of Accounting.
"It is a delight to recognize Good, Swartz, Brown & Berns for its generous contributions to the Department of Accounting," said Fred J. Evans, dean of the college. Their gift in support of faculty excellence assures that the next generation of graduates will continue to be outstanding employees and capable leaders," Evans said.
David Swartz, managing partner of GSBB and a CSUN alum, said his firm was honored by the naming.
"Cal State Northridge has provided generations of successful business leaders," he said. "Several of those leaders are on staff at GSBB, from partners to staff accountants. Supporting the institutions that create tomorrow's business leaders is critical not only for the local economy, but also for the continued prosperity of the university."
As one of the largest accounting firms in Southern California, the 16-partner Good, Swartz, Brown & Berns employs one hundred staff members. The multidisciplinary professional services firm provides
traditional accounting and tax services as well as personal financial planning, business management and information technology consulting
services for middle market companies and their owners throughout Southern California.
Cal State Northridge's College of Business and Economics is home to several nationally recognized programs where students gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside faculty members and business professionals in a variety of areas. Among its acclaimed programs is the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program in which CSUN students provide free tax preparation assistance to low income families and individuals. The college is also home to the San Fernando Valley Economic Research Center, where students work with faculty in collecting, assembling, analyzing and disseminating economic, social and demographic data pertaining to the Valley.
