ŒInternational Ecology Posters¹ on Display at CSUN

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 3, 2003) - Earth, Wind and Solar: International Ecology Posters, a new exhibit at The Art Galleries at Cal State Northridge, explores how artists use posters to make their concerns about the environment known.

The exhibit, featuring pieces from the Center for the Study of Political Graphics¹ collection, opens March 22 in the main gallery and runs through April 26.

CSUN¹s Art Galleries are located at the north end of the campus off Halsted Street.

The exhibit features posters from all over the world, including Asia, Europe and the United States, and examines how artists turn their work into political statements about the environment and the growing global ecological movement.

An opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on March 22.

At 10 a.m. on March 24, art historian Emily Haraldson, co-curator of the exhibit, will offer an in-depth look at the artists work.

On April 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., the gallery will host a panel discussion on art and environment in the main art gallery. Panelists include, artist Kim Abeles, an associate professor of public art at CSUN; Rex Frankel, president of the Ballona Ecosystem Education Project; environmentalist John Quigley, who spent weeks attempting to save Old Glory, the ancient oak tree, in Santa Clarita; and Carol Wells, executive director of the Center for the Study of Political Graphics and co-curator of the exhibit.

The exhibit and events are free and open to the public.

Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. For more information please contact Louise Lewis, director of CSUN¹s Art Galleries, at (818) 677-2156.
