Day to Offer Respite for Caregivers
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 18, 2003) ‹ Caring for a loved one with memory impairment takes time and stamina, things that caregivers sometimes find they don't have enough of.
Hoping to help caregivers find the resources and support they need to get through those hard times, Cal State Northridge is offering a day full of information, education and relaxation on Saturday, May 10.
"This Day's For You," offered in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties' Greater San Fernando Valley Office, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union on the east side of the campus off Zelzah Avenue.
"'This Day's For You' will honor and nurture family caregivers who rarely take time off to care for themselves," said Debra Sheets, coordinator of CSUN's Interdisciplinary Gerontology Program and one of the event organizers. "We hope the wellness day will be a source of renewal, inspiration and encouragement to those caring for their loved ones with memory problems and other disabling conditions."
Sessions will offer tips on relaxation, community resource information, as well as opportunities to talk to other caregivers.
A $15 donation pays for all workshops, lunch, parking and a resource guide. Free and/or low-cost respite care will be available. For more information on how to register, call (818) 677-4404.
