CSUN Faculty Member Becomes Fellow
of the American Council on Education
(NORTHRIDGE Calif., April 21, 2003) Cal State Northridge anthropology professor Naomi Bishop has been named a fellow of the American Council on Education (ACE).
Bishop, director of CSUNšs Liberal Studies Program, is one of 37 senior faculty members and administrators from across the country were invited to become ACE fellows during the 2003-2004 academic year.
Each fellow will have the opportunity to learn about higher education administration by "shadowing" a president at another university for one academic year. The fellow will be included in the highest level of decision making while participating in administrative activities, as well as contributing to a leadership team exploring a project to benefit their own institution. Each fellow will also have an opportunity to make visits to a number of campuses in the United States and abroad.
"I was thrilled to be selected and am looking forward to the fellowship year," said Bishop. "I donšt yet know where I will be spending my year, but I hope it will be at a public university where I can explore issues similar to those facing us at CSUN. I am grateful to President Jolene Koester and Provost Louanne Kennedy for the opportunity this fellowship provides, and I look forward to returning to the campus in 2004 with new experiences and ideas to share."
Bishop was chair of CSUNšs anthropology department for eight years and director of liberal studies for four years. She currently develops undergraduate credential programs at CSUN.
