CSUN Offers 'Afternoon of Music and Conversation'
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 21, 2003) - Cal State Northridge invites the community to an intimate "Afternoon of Music and Conversation" on Sunday, March 30.
The afternoon will feature a performance and lecture by CSUN violin professor Mary Kim. The event will be moderated by CSUN music professor emeritus Ralph Heidsiek.
The event is being organized by the Arts Council of California State University, Northridge as a benefit for its Student Achievement Award Endowment Fund, which helps to underwrite the college expenses of qualified students studying the arts.
Activities will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Music Building located on the southwest corner of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge
Kim has a master's in music from Yale University and a bachelor's in architecture from Princeton University. In addition, she attended The Juilliard School for seven years, where she studied with music masters Dorothy DeLay and Masao Kawasaki.
Since she made her debut at age 12 with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Kim has performed as a soloist and chamber musician and in orchestras throughout the Northeast, the West Coast and in Korea. This past summer, Kim collaborated with cellist Sadao Harada, founding member of the Tokyo String Quartet, on the Schumann Piano Quintet.
Kim joined CSUN's music faculty in 1999. She teaches violin and music history, coaches CSUN's Honors String Quartet, performs as a soloist and as a member of numerous faculty chamber groups, and works with high school orchestras throughout Southern California.
