CSUN Students Get Their Education Abroad
(NORTHRIDGE Calif., March 5, 2003) - Twenty-nine Cal State Northridge students are studying abroad this academic year, part of the only three percent of American undergraduates who experience studying outside the United States.
The California State University system¹s International Program is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The program sends students to 50 distinguished universities and other institutions of higher education in 18 different countries including: Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korean, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom. Israel and Zimbabwe currently are on temporary suspension due to political turmoil in both countries.
"The purpose of this program is to expand the educational horizons of our students, to prepare our students for a global marketplace and to recognize that we are all interconnected," said John Charles, assistant director of international programs at Cal State Northridge.
"For the students, it may simply be an opportunity to leave family, friends and all that is familiar and embark on the journey of a lifetime. Many, I am sure, participate for the sheer joy of adventure," Charles said.
CSUN program officials have recently completed interviews with approximately 80 students who hope to study abroad for the 2003-2004 academic year. CSUN selection results will be available the first week in April.
