History of Los Angelesı Transportation Exhibits at CSUN

(NORTHRIDGE Calif., May 6, 2001) - Photographs, maps, government reports, promotional literature and other contemporary records that document more than 100 years of Los Angelesı transportation history are on display at Cal State Northridge through August 9.

From horse-drawn carriages to high-speed freeways and the construction of the rapid rail transit system in the 1990ıs, the exhibition shows how the city and county tried to connect the growing region.

The exhibit is located on the second floor of the Oviatt Libraryıs west wing. The library is in the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

Pieces in the exhibition are from the libraryıs collections. Some of the photographs are from the Urban Archives Center and some of the documents are from the libraryıs special collections, said Tony Gardner, curator of special collections and archives.

"Transportation is always on the mind of Angelinos. With the recent opening of the San Fernando Valley part of the Red Line and news of increasing ridership on our rapid transit system, an exhibition on the history of transportation in particular local public rail transportation, should be of great interest," said Gardner.

For more information about the exhibit, call Tony Gardner at (818) 677-2832.
