CSUN to Host Puppetry Jamboree

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 11, 2002) - Hundreds of puppetry aficionados will be descending on Cal State Northridge on Sunday, April 21, to take part in a "Day of Puppetry Jamboree!"

The day, which also happens to be the National Day of Puppetry, will feature performances, workshops and networking opportunities for people interested in turning their love of puppetry into a career.

"There's going to be something for everyone," said CSUN art professor Philip Morrison, a coordinator of the event.

The jamboree is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Business/Education auditorium on the southeast corner of Plummer Street and Etiwanda Avenue on the west side of the campus.

Workshop topics include marionette manipulation, hand puppet manipulation on camera, sculpting, stop-motion animation, writing television scripts for puppets and anatomy of a hand puppet.

Performances include "Mardi Gras!" by Rene and His Artists Productions, "Peter and the Wolf" by Jim Gamble and performed by Greg Ballora, and "Amaterasu" and "The Witch's Egg" by Christine Papalexis.

Registration is $28 for members of the Los Angeles Guild of Puppetry, $32 for non-members, $10 for children between ages 4 and 17 and $20 for high school and college students with identification.
