CSUN "pARTners" Exhibit to Explore
Nuances of Shared Artistic Lives

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Jan. 9, 2002) - "pARTners: Lorraine Lubner and Martin Lubner," a new exhibit at Cal State Northridge's Art Galleries, explores the nuances of independence and exchange between two artists who live together.

The exhibit opens Saturday, Jan. 26, in the Main Gallery and will run through March 2. An opening reception takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 26, and a gallery talk with the artists is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 28.

All events are free and open to the public. The Main Gallery is located at the north end of the campus off Plummer Street.

Lorraine and Martin Lubner, painters, met in Los Angeles in the mid 1950s and both studied at UCLA, he in art and she in philosophy. They recently celebrated their 42nd anniversary.

Lorraine Lubner's work explores the qualities of pigment ‹ absorption, reflection, texture and hue. Her paintings evolve as interactive experiences between the process and materials. Her work is in the collections of Anaconda Copper of Denver, Aramco Corp. of Ohio and the Ben Uri Gallery Permanent Collection in London.

Martin Lubner created paintings in which narrative plays a strong role, often based on an inventory of objects in his studio. His imagery often contains elements of satire and an ironic commentary on the human condition. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the London Contemporary Arts Council and the Museum of Modern Art in Israel.

The Main Gallery is open Monday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., and Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
