High Schoolers Attempt to Build a Better Mousetrap

Hundreds Gather at CSUN for MESA Competition

What:

Is it is possible to build a better mousetrap? How about one that can also serve as a car? Can you drop a raw egg without breaking it?

Those are just some of the questions more than 350 high school students from throughout Los Angeles County will explore at the Los Angeles Metro Regional MESA Day competition at Cal State Northridge.

MESA, which stands for Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement, encourages educationally disadvantaged young people to consider careers in math, science or engineering. Saturday's event includes contests in all three areas

When:

9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 23
11:15 a.m. ‹ egg drop
12:15 p.m. ‹ balsawood glider
12:15 p.m. ‹ mousetrap cars
1:15 p.m. ‹ bottle rocket launch
