CSUN Offers Public Chance to Meet Their Local Judges
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 19, 2002) - The community will get a rare opportunity to switch seats with local Superior Court judges and ask them questions during a public forum on Wednesday, May 1, at Cal State Northridge.
The sixth annual "Meet the Judges Forum: Cross-Examine Your Los Angeles County Judges," sponsored by CSUN's Department of Political Science, is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union on the east side of the campus off Zelzah Avenue.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available for $3 in Lot G4, which has an entrance off Zelzah at Plummer Street.
"There is little opportunity for judges and the public to interact outside the formal constraints of the courtroom. This gives the public the chance to ask questions and discuss concerns about the operation of the court system," said Sylvia Snowiss, a CSUN political science professor who organized the event.
A panel of 14 judges from the Los Angeles County Superior Courts in Van Nuys and San Fernando and a representative from the San Fernando Valley Bar Association will answer questions from the public about the workings of the court system and the role and responsibilities of judges.
