Hahn will be speaking to a meeting of New California Media, a statewide network of ethnic media, at 11 a.m. in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union, on the east side of the campus off Zelzah Avenue.

"It¹s very clear that both Mayor Hahn and secession movement leaders see the importance of reaching out to the new Los Angeles - the Los Angeles that reads Spanish-language newspapers, watches Korean television, listens to Armenian radio and votes on bilingual ballots," said Sandy Close, executive director of New California Media.

Roberto Lovato, one of the event's coordinators and director of CSUN's Central American Studies Program, said he found it interesting that the two sides on the secession issue are courting minority voters.

"As Los Angeles' demographics unfold, minorities will be a, if not the, defining factor in deciding the future of Los Angeles," Lovato said.

Hahn's appearance is co-sponsored by the university's AS SPACE and the Central American United Students Association of Cal State Northridge.
