Larry Flynt to Talk about Censorship,
First Amendment in Rare Appearance at CSUN

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 8, 2002) - Controversial publisher Larry Flynt will talk about censorship and the First Amendment during a rare public appearance on Wednesday, April 24, at Cal State Northridge.

Flynt, publisher of such adult publications as "Hustler" magazine, will speak at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the east side of the campus off Zelzah Avenue. Following the presentation, Flynt will answer questions from the audience.

Attendance is free and open to the public.

"As a feminist and someone who does not approve of how he earns his income, I have to admit that he still represents much that we can admire," said cinema and television arts professor Judith Marlane, one of the organizers of the event. "We have to regard him with respect for those things that he does to help all of us."

Marlane said Flynt has led contemporary fights to combat censorship and preserve Americans' rights under the First Amendment.

"Larry Flynt has often been at the forefront of fighting in the courts to ensure that the First Amendment stands tall and in no way gets compromised," she said. "This is a rare opportunity to hear from someone who has put his efforts and money behind his convictions."

For more information, call (818) 677-1200 and ask for the Performing Arts Center.
