CSUN Forum Attempts to Increase Understanding
Between the Sexes
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Feb 22, 2002) - Have you ever wondered why men are so
afraid of commitment? Or, if women are so liberated, why do they still want
men to ask them out, pay for dinner, take all the sexual initiatives and
call them in the morning?
Warren Farrell, a nationally-recognized expert on male/female dynamics and
author of the international bestseller Why Men Are The Way They Are, will
attempt to answer those and other questions at a forum on Thursday, March
14, at Cal State Northridge.
"Why Men Are The Way They Are" will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at
the Performing Arts Center in the University Student Union on the east side
of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
His presentation will be followed by a menšs beauty contest and a role
reversal "date."
"The goal of the program is to increase understanding between the genders
and to promote enhanced male/female relationships," said Carolyn Okazaki,
coordinator of CSUNšs Project Advocates for Cultural Talk.
"As a counselor with University Counseling Services, I can say that while
male/female relationships appear to have changed dramatically in terms of
the individualšs expectation of him or herself and self in relationship, in
many ways we have remained the same," she said. "The program should give
each one of us insight into the experience of the other gender and thereby
increase understanding of the opposite gender."
Farrell has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey TV show and has been interviewed
by Barbara Walters, Peter Jennings and Larry King.
