CSUN Conference to Make the Whole Family College Ready
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Feb. 6, 2002) - Families play a key role in whether a child makes it to college or not. Cal State Northridge is making sure that families have the right tools to succeed by hosting a daylong conference, "College: Making It Happen," on Saturday, Feb. 9.
The conference will cover such topics as financial planning for your child's education, how to create a learning environment at home and the importance of family literacy.
"This conference is a wonderful opportunity for parents and students in the San Fernando Valley to learn about college and universities," said Fidel Ramirez, CSUN's associate director of student outreach and recruitment. "The conference emphasizes the required academic preparation for college success, how parents can positively impact student achievement and ways of financing a college education."
Special educational centers will be provided for elementary, middle and high school students while their parents attend separate workshops throughout the day.
For more information, call Fidel Ramirez at (818) 677-2967.
Gov. Gray Davis and the state legislature have officially proclaimed February as "College Awareness Month." "College: Making It Happen" is part of a statewide campaign to raise college awareness.
