(NORTHRIDGE Calif., April 15, 2002) Cal State Northridge astronomy major Jose A. Ceja was chosen out of approximately 170 college students from across the nation to present his original research at a special conference in Washington D.C. later this week.

Ceja will be one of 68 students to present the results of their independent research in the social and natural sciences, engineering and mathematics at the sixth annual "Council on Undergraduate Research Posters on the Hill" on April 18.

Ceja from the Physics and Astronomy Department will present the new infrared observations of the sun. He is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

His faculty advisor, professor Matt Penn, will accompany Ceja.

"I am happy that the CUR has appreciated Josešs dedication and talent by selecting him from many students across the country to present his work at their meeting in Washington, D.C.," Penn said. "Jose is providing an example to all students about how commitment to excellence in your CSUN education can create opportunities far from the CSUN campus."

The 68 students will meet members of Congress, funding programs officers and representatives of U.S. scientific societies at the session on Capitol Hill.

To receive more information about the event, or a complete list of student presenters, contact Julio Blanco, chair of CSUNšs Physics and Astronomy Department at (818) 677-2775 or visit the CUR website at http://www.cur.org/snapshot/history/poh2002.asp.
