Conference to Honor Caregivers for Alzheimer¹s Patients
(NORTHRIDGE Calif., May 15, 2002) Being a caregiver for a loved one who has Alzheimer¹s can be mentally and physically tiring and frustrating, and it involves a lot of patience.
Cal State Northridge¹s Interdisciplinary Gerontology Program, the Greater San Fernando Valley Office and Alzheimer¹s Association of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are collaborating to put together a conference to celebrate and honor the people that provide care to a loved one with memory problems on Saturday, June 1.
The conference, "For All You Do, This Day¹s For You: Help Your Loved One by Helping Yourself," will begin at 9 a.m. in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union on the east side of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
"Sooner or later, each of us will be a caregiver and have to help a family member or loved one. Caregiving is full of rewards as well as crises," said CSUN health science professor Debra Sheets, coordinator for the conference. "This day of renewal for caregivers celebrates and honors the love and sacrifices they make to provide care. It also will provide information on resources and support so that caregivers can have a more positive and spiritually rewarding experience."
The day will begin with keynote speaker Connie Goldman, an author and National Public Radio producer, who will discuss "Taking Care of Loved Ones The Rewards of Caregiving."
Conference activities include massage therapy, deep breathing and energy flow techniques, music renewal and a certified yoga instructor.
