Lecture to Cover Impact of Sept. 11
on Asian American Community
(NORTHRIDGE Calif., April 3, 2002) - The effect of the events of Sept. 11 on the Asian American community will be discussed at Cal State Northridge on Wednesday, April 10.
Shamina Singh, former executive director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, will lead the discussion at 7 p.m. in the Grand Salon, University Student Union on the center of campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge. Her appearance is part of the annual Distinquished Lecture series held by CSUNıs Asian American Studies Department.
"We felt that she would have knowledge of the various issues of concern to Asian Americans - and given her vantage point at Washington D.C. and being herself a South Asian, where many members of her community were targeted after Sept. 11 - we felt that she would be in a very good position to provide a perspective on how the events of Sept. 11 have affected the Asian American community, and South Asian Americans in particular," said department chair Enrique de la Cruz.
Singhıs presentation will last for an hour and will be followed by a questions from the audience.
The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Enrique de la Cruz at (818) 677-4966.
