CSUN Named Among Top Universities for Hispanic Students

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., May 23, 2001) ‹ Cal State Northridge is ranked eleventh in the nation in The Hispanic Outlook for Higher Education's annual ranking of the top 100 colleges for Hispanics.

The magazine's May 7 issue is dedicated to rating the nation's universities and colleges on how well they serve Hispanic students.

"It's an honor to be recognized for our efforts in serving a diverse community. Our ties to the Hispanic community not only benefit Hispanics, but everyone," said CSUN President Jolene Koester. "The diversity of our campus is a reflection of the efforts we have made to ensure that Northridge provides a quality educational experience for everyone and we are grateful that our efforts are being recognized."

In addition to ranking eleventh in the nation among colleges and universities that award bachelor degrees, Northridge ranked forty-sixth in the nation among those institutions that award master's degrees.

Hispanic Outlook also ranked CSUN eighth in the nation in awarding degrees to Hispanics in area studies, seventh in communications, seventh in foreign language, fifth in liberal arts and sciences and seventh in social sciences.

Northridge also ranked eighth in the nation in its number of Hispanic administrators and faculty.

The rankings are made based on information provided by the U.S. Department of Education.

California State University, Northridge has more than 29,000 full- and part-time students and offers 58 bachelor's and 50 master's degrees. Founded in 1958, it is the only four-year university in the San Fernando Valley.
