CSUN Celebrates Cesar Chavez Day with a Healthy Start
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 28, 2001) - In the spirit of the late Latino labor leader Cesar E. Chavezıs dedication to social service, Cal State Northridge will join in a health fair offering health education, service-learning and multi-cultural activities to elementary school students and their families on Saturday, March 31.
The "Healthy Start Fair" will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Toluca Lake Elementary School located at 4840 Cahuenga Blvd. in North Hollywood.
"Itıs important for our students to understand who Cesar Chavez was and the values he stood for," said Vicki Ebin, CSUN health sciences professor and event co-coordinator. "What better way to do this than to participate in Cesar Chavez Day."
More than 200 CSUN volunteers and community-based agencies will host health education booths. Health-related information and activities will be available throughout the day.
The event is coordinated by CSUNıs Health Sciences Department and Career Centerıs volunteer program in collaboration with the Los Angeles Unified School District.
