CSUN Child Center Holding Silent Fundraiser

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., May 14, 2001) - Cal State Northridge's Child and Family Studies Center is hosting a silent auction this week to raise scholarship money for needy families.

The prizes, donated by local businesses, are on display and available for bidding in the center's Lab School at 18330 Halsted St. in Northridge. Winners will be announced during an informal potluck party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the school on Friday, May 18.

Barbara J. Hill, the center's director, said money from the fundraiser will go toward scholarships for needy preschoolers and kindergartners in the school.

The Lab School and the center are part of CSUN's Department of Family Environmental Sciences and are dedicated to fostering the growth and development of the whole child as well as forming a partnership with the child's family. The school also serves as a learning environment for CSUN students interested in working with children.

California State University, Northridge has more than 29,000 full- and part-time students and offers 58 bachelor's and 50 master's degrees. Founded in 1958, it is the only four-year university in the San Fernando Valley.
