Cal State Northridge's Center for Community-Service Learning is hosting the free event, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Student Union's Grand Salon. Free parking is available nearby in Lot C on Zelzah Avenue just north of Nordhoff Street.
Community-Service Learning programs allow students to earn academic credit by performing meaningful work for schools, nonprofit and public organizations in their communities, said Maureen Rubin, director of CSUN's Center For Community-Service Learning.
"We hope this event will stimulate many projects where our students can use the community as their classroom while improving the quality of life throughout our city," Rubin said.
The event is being sponsored by CSUN, the Office of the Chancellor of the California State University system, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Valley Interfaith Council, the Jewish Federation, and California Campus Compact, a consortium of about 40 higher education institutions that support service-learning programs, Rubin said.
About 75 people are expected to attend, Rubin said. Interested religious-based charity and non-profit organizations, as well as faculty and administrators of service-learning programs, are invited to the event, Rubin said.
For more information or to RSVP for the conference, call, write or fax Rubin at the Center for Community-Service Learning at CSUN, 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330-8370. Her phone number is (818) 677-7395 and her fax number is (818) 677-5935.
