CSUN Career Center Offers Students a Chance
to Hook-Up with Nonprofit Organizations

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 30, 2000) - Hoping to foster stronger links between the nonprofit community and the university, Cal State Northridge's Career Center is hosting a "Nonprofit Networking Day" on Monday, April 10.

Students will have an opportunity to meet nonprofit professionals, find out about internships and jobs and learn more about the nonprofit community.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union near the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.

More than 40 organizations are expected to take part, including Ability First, the Alzheimer's Association, AIDS Project Los Angeles, the Arthritis Foundation, AVIVA Family and Children's Services, the California Association of Nonprofits, the Childcare Resource Center and the YMCA.

Jan Potzmann, internship coordinator for CSUN's Career Center, said recent government cutbacks are lead to a growth in the nonprofit sector.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that entry-level job opportunities will increase by 45 percent nationwide by the year 2002, she said.

"Recent discussions between university officials and members of the nonprofit community indicate that there is a significant shortage of qualified entry-level professionals for positions in nonprofit management," Potzmann said. For more information about "Nonprofit Networking Day" and the internship program, call Potzmann at (818) 677-2878.
