ACTRESS SHELLEY FABARES SET AS SPEAKER
FOR OPENING OF ALZHEIMER'S CENTER

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., April 26, 2000) Actress Shelley Fabares, national spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Association, will be featured speaker on Friday at ceremonies marking the opening of the Alzheimer's Association Center on the campus of California State University, Northridge.

The twice Emmy-nominated actress will salute the partnership between the Alzheimer's Association of Los Angeles and Cal State Northridge, the first time an academic institution and a major chapter of the non-profit organization have joined together to offer services to the public.

The 9:30 a.m. program will be at Monterey Hall, located at the corner of Nordhoff Street and Zelzah Avenue. Monterey Hall is planned as the gateway to the varied public service programs CSUN will offer to members of surrounding communities.

The partnership is anchored by a relationship with the CSUN Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences--chaired by Dr. Stephen Sinclair--which is a department of the university's College of Health and Human Development, headed by Dean Ann Stutts.

The four offices to be staffed by the Alzheimer's Association Center in Monterey Hall will offer such dementia-related services as information about Alzheimer's disease, educational events for caregivers, the general public and students, professional and paraprofessional training and walk-in family consultation, family assistance and support groups.
