CSUN to Sponsor Goodwill Donation Drive

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., May 15, 2000) -- Cal State Northridge is hosting a donation drive from Saturday, May 20, through Sunday, June 4, aimed at collecting reusable items from CSUN students cleaning out unwanted possessions as they prepare to move at semester's end.

The annual "Check Out" donation drive, co-sponsored by CSUN's University Recycling Program and Goodwill Industries, is aimed at CSUN students but is open to the community as well, said Cyndi Signett, CSUN's recycling coordinator. Associated Students sponsors CSUN's recycling program.

"The donation drive is geared to students moving out of their dorms, but the community has the opportunity to donate items too," Signett said. "It gives everyone a chance to 'recycle' all types of household and other items no longer needed or wanted."

Items collected and sold in Goodwill thrift shops help fund local vocational rehabilitation and job training programs for people with physical and developmental disabilities, Signett said.

The Goodwill Donation Station will be at the southeast corner of Lassen Street and Zelzah Avenue, CSUN Lot N. An attendant will be on duty daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accept donations and issue receipts for tax purposes, Signett added.

For more information on what items are acceptable and reusable, contact Signett at (818) 677-2477, extension 241 or call Goodwill Industries at (818) 782-2520.
