Workshop on How Art Can Enhance Therapy Offered at CSUN

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 28, 2000) - A workshop on how art can help enhance the practice of psychotherapy will be offered to mental health professionals by Cal State Northridge's Centers in Educational Psychology on Saturday, April 8.

The session will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in the university's Education Building Room 3117 on the west side of campus near Etiwanda Avenue and Plummer Street.

Marriage and family counselor Robin Scott Walker will present "The Art of Therapy: Combining Art & Therapy to Deepen Your Clinical Skills." Walker will guide an excursion into the world of the artists and discuss what they do, how they do art and how this is directly relevant to the practice of psychotherapy. This hands-on workshop will provide the participants the opportunity to use their right brain functions and create their own pieces of art.

Affordable fees and continuing education units are offered to marriage family child counselors, licensed clinical social workers and educators.

The workshops are designed to provide quality continuing education and training to licensed counselors, teachers, school psychologists, interns and other mental health professionals.

To register, or for more information, call Diana Castle or Heidi Kwok, program coordinators, at (818) 677-2549.

CSUN has about 27,000 full- and part-time students, offering 48 bachelor's and 39 master's degrees. Founded in 1958, CSUN is the only four-year public university in the San Fernando Valley.
