Workshop on How to Assess, Treat HIV/AIDS
Offered at CSUN

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., March 20, 2000) - A mandatory workshop on how to effectively assess and treat HIV/AIDS will be offered to mental health professionals by Cal State Northridge's Centers in Educational Psychology on Sunday, March 26.

The session will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the university's Business Education Auditorium 101 on the west side of campus near Etiwanda Avenue and Plummer Street. Marriage and family counselor Miriam Davis will present "Mandatory Assessment and Treatment of HIV/AIDS." The course will provide a comprehensive overview of the major medical, psychiatric, psych-social and treatment issues impacting individuals and families with HIV or AIDS.

The workshop will discuss the historical background, issues of past and present treatments, drug protocols and their problems, psychiatric complications of AIDS, dual diagnosis, suicide and bereavement, the impact AIDS/HIV has on specific populations, support systems and community resources, and the societal and economic impact of long-term survival.

Affordable fees and continuing education units are offered to marriage family child counselors, licensed clinical social workers and educators.

The workshops are designed to provide quality continuing education and training to licensed counselors, teachers, school psychologists, interns and other mental health professionals.
